1. Decorations Should Be Minimal (or Non-Existent)
Rule of Thumb! If you bring decorations we recommend keeping it simple. If you do want to go all out with decorations, book an extra 30 minutes. Why? Pole parties are a LOT of fun! The pole dance instructor's main job is to not only teach tricks, but to work the room and ensure everyone feels comfortable. The party host will have plenty of activities, pole dance games, and more to keep everyone busy. More often than not, decorations become more of an unnecessary hassle. Because studios charge a set rate for a certain amount of time, set up and break down time may cut into your party time.
2. Food & Drinks
This topic is similar to number #1, in that you should keep it simple! Pole parties are very lively, and the host will keep each and every guests' attention. A lot of times food just gets ignored, and eventually thrown away. If you are going to bring food, make sure it's simple finger foods that are easy to set up and eat. Water is highly recommended. Pole dancing can be a workout so having water is a good idea.
Now.....let's talk about alcohol! Having a few drinks before the party is not a good idea. Remember, you are dancing, spinning around a pole, and potentially climbing up and down. With that said, drinking wine or taking a few shots during the party is fine, but walking in already tipsy makes it very difficult to learn the fundamentals, which are taught in the beginning. Once guests get the hang of everything, it's totally fine to have a few drinks throughout the party.
4. Don't Wear Any Lotion or Oil (Even the night before)
The pole sticks to DRY skin. Having any lotion or oil on your skin will make it very difficult to perform many of the tricks. Even if you put lotion on the night before, once you begin to sweat, it will start to seep out from your pours. It can be frustrating for guests who can't hold on to the pole because they keep sliding off due to lotion on their body and hands.
5. The Party Hosts Knows What To Do
You may be worried about plus-size guests, or more reserved guests, etc.....don't be! Instructors are trained to work with various fitness levels and sizes, and they also know how to work with different personality types. Hosts can read the room. They know when someone may need extra help, or if someone just wants to watch and not participate. The host is a professional pole instructor, and will have plenty to teach to keep everyone enjoying themselves.
6. Don't Be Afraid To Make Requests During The Party (or before)
Like we mentioned before, the party host's main job is to teach you all about pole dancing, and make sure everyone has a great time. If you have a song you want to hear, or a special request for something, SPEAK UP! Party hosts are happy to oblige your requests.
7. Tell Guests Your Party Starts 15 Minutes Before It Actually Does
Pole parties are booked for a specific block of time. For example, if you pay for a party to go from 6pm-7pm, regardless of when guests show up, your party will still end at 7pm. To ensure the party starts on time, you may want to tell guests it starts 15 minutes before it actually does.
8. Shorts Are Better Than Pants
You can dress up or wear workout clothing, but the more exposed your legs and arms are, the easier the tricks will be. The pole sticks to skin, not clothes. For example, yoga pants are totally acceptable, however, shorts would help you stick more if you are doing something that requires you to hold on with your legs. Remember, you can always bring extra clothes to change into. Some guests do not like their legs showing, so we keep our studio pretty dark. It helps guests feel more comfortable. You can still learn plenty even in pants.
9. Don't Be Nervous
Your pole party will be an unforgettable experience. Something you and your friends will laugh about for years to come. It's very common to feel nervous for the first few minutes, but once the party starts, you and your guests will feel right at home!
The party hosts are paid to work your party. This means teaching tricks, dance routines, etc. However, if you or any of your guests make a request for the party host to perform a dance routine as entertainment for the group, please know tipping is customary.
